Melissa’s parents came down to visit for a few hours on Saturday – there couldn’t have been a worse today to drive 75 miles with two kids in the car – we were experiencing a bit of odd weather with two days of constant torrential down pours.
The funny thing about the visit is that Loren fell right into place – like she sees them everyday! Considering she is lucky to see them every other month – I was surprised! She gave hugs and kisses like they were going out of style and she sat in grandpas lap all afternoon! It was too cute!
There was a little bit of competition for grandpa’s attention – after all he has two princesses, one who has no words and just shoves people out of her way and one who came first and just wedges herself right in! HILARIOUS!
So, we learned that according to the grandparent rule – no matter how long they are away she loves them just the same! For that matter she carried their photo around all day yesterday.
We also determined that we likely couldn’t enforce any rules on the grandparents (ie: she ate 3/4 pack of M&Ms, half a bag of cookies, 1/2 a bag of yogurt melts AND had some of grandpa’s iced tea…) – so it’s probably best they live 6 hours away!
Yesterday we made a huge purchase…a car? a house? (in my dreams!) – we bought a potty, teeny tiny little underwear (adorned with Minne Mouse…LG’s choice) and a step stool (that is too short).
I can’t believe we are almost ready to at least give this potty training thing a whirl.
For the next few weeks we plan to let Loren sit on her potty while we sit on ours. I know, you’re thinking -“she’s going to the bathroom with you?” And the answer is YES. Noone goes to the bathroom alone at our house. We should run a bathroom escort service – Loren OR Boston will 100% join you in the bathroom – closed doors and locks be damned.
When Boston was a puppy and we were potty training him I always sang “It’s peanut butter potty time” (A spoof on this guy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8MDNFaGfT4 ) – when it was time to outside…it would be wrong to sing that to Loren too…right?
Although Melissa goes to bed several hours before I do (she also gets up several hours before I do…so I don’t judge!) – we always crawl into bed together and talk before she goes to sleep.
This time and reading/rocking/singing to Loren before she goes to sleep are my two favorite times of the day.
Our conversations are usually about our day, what tomorrow will be like or random things we heard on the news.
Last night – Melissa taught me to sign the rainbow (plus a few more).
It was cute – she raved about how well she was picking up the signs and she wished this lady could have taught her Spanish…or Italian (she took both and struggled through them!).
List of things to do – find a Spanish language instructional video…geared toward toddlers!
List of signs I now know – even though I haven’t watched a single video:
- Thank You
I’m sure there are more I just can’t remember at this point.
Gosh…my wife should be a teacher or something 🙂
